Free Football Betting Preview & Picks: 6 Best Bets for Saturday 14 March

Atlanta vs Philadelphia Union

MLS

Both teams have endured disastrous starts to the new MLS season. After three matches each, Atlanta and Philadelphia Union remain pointless.

However, if we look back to last season, the contrast between the two clubs becomes clear. Philadelphia Union won both meetings against Atlanta, and they went on to finish top of the Eastern Conference with 66 points, compared to just 28 points for Atlanta.

On paper, Atlanta’s squad may carry a slightly higher market value under Gerardo Martino, but the Union appear to be the better organised and more cohesive side. Bradley Carnell’s team have also been somewhat unlucky in their results so far this season.

Playing away in MLS is never easy, but based on the overall structure and quality of the visitors, we still believe Philadelphia Union should have the upper hand.

With the Draw No Bet option providing protection, this looks like the smart betting approach.

Heerenveen vs Telstar

Dutch Eredivisie

Heerenveen have been enjoying a solid run of form, winning four of their last five matches. In the previous round we tipped the Superfriesians to beat Excelsior, and they managed that more comfortably than the 1-2 scoreline suggests.

Despite this good run, Heerenveen are not always the most reliable side when playing at short odds on home soil, which makes backing them here slightly less attractive from a value perspective.

Telstar, meanwhile, still have eight matches remaining to escape the relegation zone, and recent performances suggest they are capable of putting together a strong run.

They come into this match after convincing wins over Sittard and Breda, both by three-goal margins, and have only lost once in their last five matches.

Another interesting statistic is that Telstar have actually collected more points away from home than at home, and coach Anthony Correia currently has a fully fit squad available.

Considering the overall metrics and current form, there appears to be clear value in supporting the visitors to avoid defeat.

Bet: Telstar +0.5 (Double Chance)Odds: 2.27

Lorient vs Lens

French Ligue 1

Lens won the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier this season, and they arrive for this match in excellent form.

The visitors are currently second in Ligue 1, sitting just one point behind league leaders PSG. With the team in third place a further ten points behind, the side managed by Pierre Sage look almost certain to secure Champions League football next season.

However, with nine matches still remaining, every point remains important, and picking up three points against a mid-table opponent like Lorient would be a major step forward.

Lorient have actually been quite strong at home, losing only one of their 13 home matches this season, but when analysing the squad overall they remain a fairly average side compared to Lens.

Lens are a well-organised and disciplined team capable of controlling games, and we expect them to dictate the tempo and gradually squeeze the life out of the hosts.

Bet: Lens to WinOdds: 1.90

St Gallen vs Lugano

Swiss Super League

This match sees the second and third placed teams in the Swiss Super League go head-to-head.

With just four matches remaining in the regular season, five points separate the two clubs. Importantly, both teams have already secured their place in the Championship Group, where the title race will be decided.

St Gallen have dominated this fixture so far this season, winning both previous meetings against Lugano, including a 1-0 victory at home and a 3-1 away win.

They also come into this game in excellent form. Enrico Maassen’s team recently beat Basel 3-0, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Lugano, on the other hand, appear to be going through a difficult spell. In the previous round we predicted Luzern to win in Lugano, and that prediction proved correct. Mattia Croci-Torti’s team struggled for large parts of that match, and failing to win in their last four games suggests they are below their best level.

Even though St Gallen will be missing several players, home advantage should still play a key role.

Bet: St Gallen to WinOdds: 2.12

Burnley vs Bournemouth

English Premier League

Despite spending over €100 million in the transfer market after earning promotion, Burnley currently sit second from bottom in the Premier League table and look increasingly likely to be relegated.

As things stand, Scott Parker’s side are ten points away from safety, and recent defeats against Brentford and Everton have only worsened their situation.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have enjoyed a far more comfortable campaign. They currently sit in ninth place and have a 21-point cushion over Burnley.

The Cherries also come into this match on the back of a five-match unbeaten run, and despite selling several players for large transfer fees in recent seasons, the manager has done an excellent job of maximising the potential of the squad.

From a betting perspective, the most interesting angle here appears to be the goal market.

Bournemouth’s away matches have been high-scoring affairs, averaging close to four goals per game, and with Burnley likely to play aggressively in search of points, this match could turn into a very open contest.

Bet: Over 2.5 GoalsOdds: 1.78

Charleroi vs Leuven

Belgian Pro League

Both teams enter this match in poor form.

Leuven initially showed signs of improvement, but they have now lost their last three matches. Their recent 5-1 defeat against Anderlecht was particularly damaging, and in the previous round they were also beaten at home by Westerlo.

With just two matches remaining in the regular season, the visitors are now desperate for points in order to avoid the relegation zone.

Charleroi currently hold a six-point advantage over Leuven, meaning a draw would go a long way toward guaranteeing their safety.

Although the hosts have also lost their last three matches, those defeats came by very narrow scorelines, suggesting their performances have been more competitive than the results indicate.

With only two players sidelined, Charleroi should have enough quality to take advantage of a Leuven side that will likely need to attack aggressively in search of points.
