HORSE RACING PREVIEW & BETTING TIP: BANGOR 4:00
PIMLICO POINT 22/1
DE LEGISLATOR 6/1
We are taking two against the field
ACKS PARROT is running well and today’s soft ground will suit. The distance isn’t going to be an issue, but being raised 2lb for finishing second last time out won’t help. Moreover, the 7-year-old is carrying top weight, and that won’t be easy over this marathon trip.
With a record of 3 wins from 37 starts over fences, it’s fair to say PLANNED PARADISE doesn’t have the best strike-rate. Nevertheless, he’s nicely treated and conditions are fine, suggesting he should be competitive for a place.
With a different jockey, ASTRONOMIC VIEW would be interesting. However, while he will stay the distance, Lucy Gardner is a calamity. Four wins from 183 rides tells its own story, and it’s enough for me to stay away.
Eleven-year-old LOGONDA has won just two of her 22 races, and the Venetia Williams-trained mare isn’t certain to stay the distance.
After back-to-back wins, BETTERFOREVERYONE could only manage 4th of 8 last time out. For now, he appears to be in the handicapper’s grip.
BALI BODY isn’t running well enough, while Irish raider BADHISATTVA is another who struggles to win, with a record of 2 from 28.
The grey gelding BREEZE OF WIND has climbed from a lowly mark of 80 to today’s 113. While he’s an honest individual, he’ll need to improve again and for some of the others to underperform.
If he puts it all together, GOLD EMERY should be in the prize money. That said, the Donald McCain-trained 10-year-old is a 14-race maiden, so a place looks more likely than a win.
That leaves us with two, and I’m going to be backing them both.
Let’s start with the outsider of the pair, PIMLICO POINT. While he was disappointing last time out, the 9-year-old comes from a stable that is now in better form. Kerry Lee fits first-time blinkers, which could help with his jumping, and the fences at Bangor should suit. Although he’s high in the weights, he’s actually 6lb lower than when beaten a short head at Uttoxeter. The lightly raced gelding looks overpriced at 22/1.
My other bet is the least exposed runner in the field, DE LEGISLATOR. While the Lucinda Russell-trained 9-year-old isn’t the youngest in the race, he’s the one with the fewest miles on the clock. His stable has come back into form since his last run, and he should appreciate the ground, track, and distance.
