Maria Sakkari vs Iga Świątek: Betting Preview & Premium Pick.
WTA: INDIAN-WELLS: ROUND-THREE
Few players in the world are better suited to the conditions at Indian Wells than Iga Świątek and Maria Sakkari, making this one of the most intriguing matchups of the round.
Świątek, a former world No. 1 and currently ranked No. 2, has built a remarkable record at this tournament. The Polish superstar lifted the Indian Wells title in both 2022 and 2024, while also reaching the semi-finals in 2023 and 2025. Her ability to dominate even elite opponents on these courts has been one of the defining features of her career.
However, there have been some signs that she may not be operating at quite the same level as in previous seasons. Świątek finished the 2025 campaign with a strong 65–17 record, but that represented a slight dip compared to her exceptional seasons before, when she posted records of 70–12 and 65–9. Since the start of 2026, the 24-year-old has gone 10–4, with defeats to Coco Gauff, Belinda Bencic, Elena Rybakina and, notably, Maria Sakkari.
Their most recent meeting came in Doha earlier this year. Świątek took the opening set, but Sakkari produced an impressive comeback to win the match 4–6, 6–4, 7–5. That result levelled their overall head-to-head at 4–4. Interestingly, Świątek had previously won four consecutive meetings between the pair, all in straight sets, including two victories on these same Indian Wells courts.

Sakkari has endured a challenging period over the past couple of seasons. After reaching a career-high ranking of No. 3, her form declined and she slipped down the rankings to No. 40. Recently, however, there have been encouraging signs of a resurgence. She reached the semi-finals in Doha earlier this year and looked extremely sharp in her opening match at Indian Wells, defeating Lilli Tagger 6–4, 6–0 with authority.
Based on recent performances, Sakkari appears to be rediscovering her confidence and rhythm. Meanwhile, Świątek needed a second-set tie-break to get past Kayla Day in her previous match, which may indicate she is not yet at her peak level.
Given Sakkari’s improved form and the confidence gained from her recent victory over Świątek, the Greek player could make this a very competitive contest. Rather than backing the outright upset, taking the handicap provides a more balanced approach while still capturing the value.
Prediction
Świątek remains the favourite, particularly given her outstanding record at Indian Wells. However, Sakkari’s renewed confidence and recent head-to-head success suggest she can keep the match close.
