PRO GAMBLER SHARING: 4 TOP BETTING TIPS AT KELSO. Hopefully you benefited from our last racing blog, where I landed 13/2 and 4/1 winners from my three selections. While it was frustrating to see the other run a solid second, the season as a whole has been an excellent one.

I like today’s card at what’s widely regarded as the friendliest racecourse in Britain, Kelso Racecourse. Although my biggest bet of the day comes at Chepstow Racecourse, I’ll still be getting properly stuck into the four races below.

PRO GAMBLER SHARING: 4 TOP BETTING TIPS AT KELSO

1:30 – THEY WANT ME 3/1

While I have to admit he’s been in decent form, I have a personal rule about not backing runners from the Jonjo O’Neill yard. With all due respect, the Cheltenham-based trainer can be hard to predict. That said, the yard’s runner KAKA’S COUSIN is coming along nicely and should run his race.

If this were a handicap, KOCKTAIL BLEU would be conceding 4lb and 8lb to the other principals, which suggests the Chris Gordon-trained six-year-old is the rightful favourite. The grey should handle the ground well, and connections will be disappointed if he doesn’t go very close.

Nevertheless, despite being the lowest rated of the trio, I’m siding with THEY WANT ME. The Donald McCain-trained son of SAGEBURG is progressing nicely, and the manner of his course-and-distance success last time out suggests there’s plenty more to come. Crucially, he won on good to soft, and this heavier ground should suit him even better. At the prices, he’s the one.

2:00 – KENT DE THAIX 11/2

Course-and-distance winner GRAND VOYAGE handles both soft and good ground, but his efforts on heavy have been disappointing. EL JEFE looks thoroughly exposed and is likely to find this trip stretching him. MILAN PARK is an interesting outsider, and I may take a small saver at around 16/1.

At the head of the market, JUDICIAL DEFERRENCE has won his last two races in good style. He’s been raised 7lb for those successes, but Ben Smith claims 6lb, which almost negates the rise. The seven-year-old is the rightful favourite, though odds of 13/8 slightly overstate his chance for me.

It’s now 53 runners since Lucinda Russell last had a winner, so she’ll be keen to get back on the scoresheet. While her lightly raced ANOTHER HIGH FIVE could improve, he doesn’t look especially well treated.

Despite pulling up last time while carrying top weight, I like the chance of KENT DE THAIX. The six-year-old has won two point-to-points and a soft-ground hurdle, and he’s dropping back in grade today. He’ll be partnered by the useful Rian Corcoran, who takes off 3lb. The trip and ground should suit, and his current odds look more than fair.

2:30 – LANCE DES LES 7/1

CHASE A FORTUNE continues to run well and should be thereabouts once again. TRIPLE CROWN is worth a second look on form, but I’d prefer to see his trainer in better form before backing one from the yard.

Based on his Flat rating, LIBERTY COACH looks fairly treated. The five-year-old should cope with the testing conditions, but my main concern is a lack of scope. TRAVIS WHEATLEY needs to brush up his jumping, while GINGER MAIL, although feasibly handicapped, must rediscover his form.

With Brian Hughes booked, BERTIES BALLET is sure to be popular. The Dianne Sayer-trained eight-year-old should strip fitter this time, but at double the odds I see far more value in LANCE DES LES.

Neil Alexander’s seven-year-old was only raised 3lb for his recent third in a maiden hurdle, and the handicapper may have underestimated that effort. The son of GRIS DE GRIS has improved since being ridden by Sean Quinlan, and I get the impression there’s more to come—especially now he encounters heavy ground.

3:00 – EMPIRE STEEL 5/1

The jumping of MAXIMILIAN remains a concern, and for that reason he’s easy enough to oppose. ELVIS MAIL enjoys racing at Kelso, but his recent efforts leave a bit to be desired.

DARE TO SHOUT is very capable and already proven at the track. On the downside, he could do with some help from the handicapper, and the extra distance on heavy ground raises a question mark.

KING OF ANSWERS boasts the strongest recent form and is a course-and-distance winner who won’t mind conditions. However, I’m not keen to back a horse from an out-of-form yard at around 2/1.

BILL BAXTER has been good to me in the past. The ten-year-old grey knows how to win and ran well enough earlier in the season before disappointing last time. Since then, the Warren Greatrex-trained gelding has undergone a wind operation, which gives cause for optimism.

EMPIRE STEEL has won four of his six starts at Kelso, including at this meeting two years ago. The ground holds no fears, and he shaped reasonably well on his return to action. With a dropping handicap mark and Charlie Maggs taking off a valuable 5lb, I’m happy to side with the old boy.
