PROFESSIONAL BETTING SERVICE PREVIEWS & PICKS LA LIGUE & EREDIVISIE

Paris FC vs Lens

France – Ligue 1

Newly promoted Paris FC have shown encouraging resilience in recent weeks and come into this fixture unbeaten in four league matches. Three of those games ended in draws against Angers, Marseille, and Auxerre, respectable results for a side still adjusting to life in Ligue 1. If we go back one match further, Stéphane Gilli’s team also picked up their fifth league win of the season, winning 2–1 away at Nantes.

At present, Paris FC sit 15th in the table, but the overall picture is far from bleak. They hold an eight-point cushion above the relegation zone, and a goal difference of -8 is relatively healthy for a team in that position. From a squad availability standpoint, the coach has few concerns, with just four players missing from a 31-man squad.

However, the challenge increases significantly here. Paris FC face a Lens side that has improved dramatically since the first meeting between the two teams, which Paris FC narrowly won 2–1 earlier in the season.

Lens currently occupy second place in Ligue 1, sitting just two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and already seven points clear of third place. While Pierre Sage’s men did suffer three league defeats in quick succession earlier in the campaign — including a loss to Marseille — their response has been outstanding. Lens have won 11 of their last 12 league matches, a run that firmly establishes them as genuine title contenders.

Crucially, that form has not been limited to home games. Five of those wins have come away from home, including an emphatic 4–1 victory at Monaco, underlining how comfortable Lens are on the road.

The visitors will be without suspended right-back Rubin Aguilar, but aside from that absence, Lens arrive in excellent physical condition and with plenty of momentum behind them.

Prediction

Given Lens’ outstanding recent form, their strong away performances, and the overall quality gap between the two sides, it is difficult to make a convincing case against the visitors. Paris FC have been competitive, but this represents a significant step up in class.

Excelsior vs AZ Alkmaar

Netherlands – Eredivisie

Excelsior’s season has taken an unexpected turn in recent weeks. After recording just one draw in their first 17 league matches, they have now drawn four of their last five. Prior to last weekend’s win, they had played out four consecutive draws, including the reverse fixture against AZ Alkmaar and another against Ajax.

The improvement shown by De Kralingers during the second half of the season coincides with having a fully fit squad, which has clearly helped stabilise performances. However, their most recent victory over Breda came under favourable circumstances. Breda were reduced to ten men after just 12 minutes, and expected goals data suggests Excelsior may have been somewhat fortunate in recent matches.

AZ Alkmaar, meanwhile, find themselves down in seventh place, a position that does not fully reflect their underlying performances. They have collected just one point from their last two league games, but there are signs that results could soon turn in their favour.

The Cheeseheads won their most recent away match at Telstar, and they were arguably unlucky not to beat Ajax in the last round. That match ended 1–1, with AZ creating the better chances and only conceding a late equaliser in stoppage time.

Prediction

While Excelsior deserve credit for their recent resilience and improved results, the bigger picture still favours the visitors. AZ Alkmaar possess greater overall quality, more depth, and are particularly well suited to playing away from home.

Taking all factors into account, the value lies with the visitors.

Bet: AZ Alkmaar to winOdds: 2.13
