RACING SERVICE: THREE MUST BETS FOR TODAY. I put a bit of time aside to write a quick racing blog. For one reason or another, we’ve never been able to get the numbers (visitors) to the level required to justify a bigger push for racing content, which is crazy when you consider it’s free and the profits have been ongoing. Nevertheless, with the tennis taking a short break, we’ll try and post a few free tips!

RACING SERVICE: THREE MUST BETS FOR TODAY

HEREFORD 12:15 — MONTEMARES 3/1

NOAHSGREATRAINBOW looked promising in bumpers, but he doesn’t appear to have trained on since switching to hurdles. To be fair, he’s still lightly raced, and Harry Derham might yet get him back on track. With that said, it’s hard to imagine him winning this.

MARSIAC is rated a solid 124 by the assessor and comes into this after gamely winning at Aintree. With his yard in good form and further improvement likely, he’s the rightful favourite. However, I want to take him—and the others—on with debut winner MONTEMARES.

The Tom Lacey–trained 4-year-old was well supported before winning his debut by 13L. He did jump a little out to the right that day, but the way he came clear was impressive. He’s penalised for that win, but there’s clearly a lot more to come from this exciting gelding.

HEREFORD 12:50 — LIAM MERA KAI 2/1

The Ben Pauling–trained FOUR SPRINGS is all the rage, but the owner didn’t overpay for him after his point-to-point win, and he’s yet to prove anything under rules. While he could be a “good find”, I wouldn’t want to take such short odds about a gelding who’s still unproven.

KOOL KID might have more to offer, but Joe Tizzard will surely want to get him a handicap mark first. LULLY DU HOUX is an interesting debutant, so we’re a bit blind when it comes to the Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls–trained 4-year-old. Nevertheless, I’m convinced one stands out from the crowd—LIAM MERA KAI.

The Warren Greatrex–trained son of BANDE was a good winner on his NHF debut, beating the now 114-rated hurdler PIONEER PETE by a comfortable 2.5L. On his hurdling debut, he wasn’t beaten far in 3rd at Huntingdon, and more importantly he left the impression that improvement was imminent. Sam Twiston-Davies should suit the 4-year-old well, and conditions look ideal.

SOUTHWELL 2:25 — MEDIA MOGUL 4/1

If NEXT TWIST is going to win races, he will need to settle better. On this occasion, Olly Murphy fits him with a first-time hood, but whether it has the desired effect remains to be seen.

I’m struggling to understand why the Henrietta Knight–trained PRECIOUS METAL is such a short price. While this isn’t the strongest race, his overall form is nothing out of the ordinary. Don’t get me wrong—he’s lightly raced and should improve, and today’s jockey Lilly Pinchin is 1-from-1 on the son of CASTLE DE BERLAIS. Nevertheless, odds of 8/11 are shorter than I’d expect, and I want to take him on with ex-Flat performer MEDIA MOGUL.

The Tom Dascombe–trained gelding finished a close fourth on his hurdling debut and might have snatched third but for a sloppy jump at the last. His Flat form was more than fair (73), and he should come on plenty for the experience—so why not!
