Shuai Zhang vs Emma Navarro Betting Preview & Free Pick

WTA Mérida

Shuai Zhang has won both of her previous matches against Emma Navarro, one of which took place just four months ago in Wuhan. On that occasion, the 37-year-old came through 6–2, 2–6, 6–3. Their other meeting was in Beijing in 2024, where Zhang won 6–4, 6–2.

As one of the seeded players, Navarro begins her campaign in round two. The 24-year-old enters this match having lost six of her ten matches this season, with all of those defeats coming against lower-ranked players.

Following a slow start to the season and a noticeable drop-off during the second half of 2025, the billionaire’s daughter has seen her ranking slide from a career-high of No. 8 (recorded in March last year) to No. 20 at the start of this week.

What we do like about the American is her willingness to maintain a busy schedule, but on the flip side, her talent appears limited. While Navarro deserves respect at this level, she looks worth opposing at short odds.

As for Zhang, after poor 2023 and 2024 seasons she lowered her sights last year. It proved to be a smart move, as the likeable veteran won 41 of her 58 matches.

This season, Zhang captured the Australian Open doubles title alongside Elise Mertens. In singles, she holds a 6–5 record, including two qualifying wins here and a first-round victory over Varvara Lepchenko. While beating average players doesn’t reveal anything new about Zhang, the fact she did so comfortably in straight sets suggests she’s playing near her peak.

The surface in Mérida clearly suits Zhang, and I believe she can improve her head-to-head record to 3–0 against today’s overrated opponent.
