THREE TOP BETS AT SANDOWN – HAVE THEM ON ME! I didn’t even look at today’s racing until I knew what was on. At this stage, the only card I’ve worked on is Sandown, and spending an extra 30 minutes padding out a blog is simply time-inefficient for me.

That said, I always try to pay it forward, so I hope this is appreciated. With that in mind, you can do both me and yourself a favour by watching my new YouTube video, where I explain how pro bettors and syndicates actually make money from betting.

THREE TOP BETS AT SANDOWN – HAVE THEM ON ME!

12:20 – CRACKERJACQUE 9/4

(I took around 3/1 — decide for yourself if the current odds are acceptable. Market watch advised.)

Nicky Henderson saddles two runners here. One is the unraced GRAND TETON, about whom we know nothing. Early money suggests he may have shown something at home, but anyone blindly trusting early markets knows very little about racing.

That said, both he and stablemate IONION receive 6lb from the two previous winners, so they clearly have some sort of chance.

With 29 rides since his last winner, Charlie Deutsch could do with a change of luck. Riding regularly for out-of-form Venetia Williams hasn’t helped, so he’ll be relieved to pick up an outside ride for Syd Hosie.

That partnership is responsible for last-time-out winner SINCH ROCA. When last seen at Wincanton, the 6-year-old beat WOLF WALKER by 2½ lengths. The form looks worth around a mark of 120, though it’s worth noting he benefited from a 3lb claimer.

Nevertheless, the son of GETAWAY is well suited by today’s testing ground, and he’s clearly the one CRACKERJACQUE needs to beat.

Anthony Honeyball’s 6-year-old failed to cope with a sharp rise in class last time out, but prior to that he was a highly impressive winner at Fontwell. While the handicapper rates this DIAMOND BOY gelding at 119, I believe he’s capable of better.

He was a smart bumper horse, looks the type to improve with experience, has already won on heavy ground, and his breeding screams soft conditions. I won’t be looking any further.

12:55 – HOT GODDESS 11/2

Nick Scholfield’s mount BOLLIN THOU has been in fantastic form and almost certainly has more to give. However, he’s up in grade and 13lb higher than his last run, and odds around 5/4 are completely unappealing.

Despite running green, PRECIOUS METAL was good enough to win last time at Lingfield. The Henrietta Knight-trained 5-year-old should improve further and is bred to handle testing conditions. That said, Gavin Sheehan’s mount is asked to give plenty of weight, which won’t be easy in a small field on stamina-sapping ground.

I much prefer taking a chance on HOT GODDESS, who may not be winning yet but is clearly improving with racing. The Martin Keighley-trained 6-year-old handles the ground well, and with her jockey’s claim she carries just 10-8.

At the prices, she’s well worth a punt.

1:25 – RISK DU PLUIE 3/1

EL GRANJERO is running well without winning, but he looks a touch high in the weights. A big burden and a drop back in trip are additional concerns for the Clive Boultbee-Brooks-trained 8-year-old.

Conversely, NORN IRON steps up in distance, and I’m not convinced that’s the right move either. Gary and Josh Moore run the out-of-form pair RIP WHEELER and LYLIAN, both of whom would need to improve significantly despite their light weights.

I like RISK DU PLUIE, trained by Ben Clarke, particularly as I believe this 7-year-old is now racing over his optimum trip. The son of NO RISK AT ALL stayed on strongly to finish a 3¼-length third of 11 over an inadequate 2m1½f at Exeter.

The handicapper has left him on a workable mark, conditions look ideal, and he should be very hard to stop.
