1.02 – SCARLET MOON (6/1)
Hurdling debutant LOVE YOU BACK comes into this after winning his last race at Brighton by six lengths. The son of GALIWAY is rated 67 on the Flat, meaning that if this race were run under those conditions, he would be receiving weight from several of these. While the Moore-trained gelding could improve again, his position at the head of the betting market looks questionable.
STARDROP was rated 78 on the Flat, but his only win in that sphere came from a mark of 62. The James Owen-trained son of ULYSSES has run twice over hurdles, finishing second both at Market Rasen and Stratford. Since he was a beaten 2/11 favourite last time out, it’s fair to say he’s yet to live up to expectations.
I’ll be backing another ex-Flat horse — namely SCARLET MOON. The Archie Watson-trained son of SEA THE MOON was the best of these on the Flat (rated 82), where he won four of his ten races. While he failed to fire on his hurdling debut, this more conventional track should suit him better than undulating Sedgefield. Ben Poste again takes the ride for the in-form Archie Watson, and a much-improved performance is anticipated.

2.32 – EL BORRACHO (6/1)
EZ TIGER won his last race with a bit in hand and is proven over this course and distance. The lightly raced eight-year-old was only raised 4 lb for that win, suggesting he’s still fairly treated. However, this looks a more competitive race, and I see him as more of a place contender than a likely winner.
JET PATROL has won two of his last four, though he was well beaten when switched to fences last time. Nevertheless, he’s closely matched with the early favourite and could also run well for a place.
As for the winner, I’m siding with EL BORRACHO. While the ten-year-old finished last of four in his most recent race, he was only beaten 8¼ lengths — and that was over fences. He now reverts to hurdles, where he’s 7 lb lower in the weights and benefits from his jockey taking off an additional 7 lb. The Greenall & Guerreiro-trained son of SOCIETY ROCK is clearly well treated, and with 15 career wins, he knows how to get his head in front.

3.32 – MYTHE BRIDGE (5/2)
BALLYNAHEER has won two of his nineteen starts, the most recent coming three runs ago. Since then, the David Dennis-trained six-year-old has finished runner-up twice, for which he’s been raised another 2 lb. He’s one for the placepots, but I’m looking elsewhere for the winner.
IRON D’EX isn’t the toughest battler, while GETTHEPOT looks a low-grade plodder. Joe Tizzard’s MOONLIGHT ARTIST won a three-miler at this track and should come on for his recent comeback run, but he’s fully exposed and hard to fancy for the win.
That leaves MYTHE BRIDGE as the clear selection. The Henry Daly-trained seven-year-old switched to fences after just three hurdle starts and has finished runner-up in both attempts so far. The lightly raced son of BLACK SAM BELLAMY is a strong stayer with scope for improvement, and this looks an ideal opportunity. Expect a bold show under Sam Twiston-Davies.
